Ambassador Yahya Shukri Sarhan, son of the late Egyptian actor Shukri Sarhan, was buried Friday in Melbourne after a funeral service at the Omar ibn al-Khattab mosque in the suburb of Preston. The burial followed a service after Friday prayers, according to an announcement by Mohsen Sarhan, a family spokesman.

Yahya Shukri Sarhan died in Australia on August 23, according to the family's account. He was born on February 1, 1963, at a Coptic hospital in Cairo, Mohsen Sarhan said in a statement posted on Facebook.

The body was transported to Falkner Memorial Cemetery in the Glenroy suburb of Victoria, according to the announcement. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry had intervened to expedite the transfer of the body from Australia to Cairo and then to Australia for burial, in accordance with Yahya Shukri Sarhan's wishes, Mohsen Sarhan said.

Mohsen Sarhan, a nephew of the actor, thanked Ambassador Haddad al-Johari, an assistant foreign minister for consular affairs and Egyptians abroad, for facilitating the process. "I thank the ambassador for his rapid response and immediate intervention to complete the procedures for transferring the body of actor Shukri Sarhan's son," Mohsen Sarhan said on Facebook.
