An Iranian oil tanker came under attack by US forces off Kharg Island, with several explosions reported in the area, the state-run Fars news agency said Saturday. The agency gave no immediate details on the nature of the assault, damage inflicted or any casualties.

Kharg Island is one of Iran's primary oil export terminals and a crucial hub for its crude shipments. The site has faced repeated US military operations in recent weeks, with American forces previously targeting air defense systems, radar installations and maritime assets along Iran's southern coast.

Iran responded to earlier attacks with drone and missile strikes against US bases in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. On Friday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Iran's oil export channel was being severed, with crude accumulating aboard vessels stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.

Bessent said no Iranian oil shipments had crossed the Strait of Hormuz to China since the blockade began. Iran has signaled it could launch preemptive military operations if it perceives a threat, indicating readiness for further action.
