Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Wednesday that they support establishing an independent Palestinian state, according to a joint statement released after their talks. The two leaders described the Palestinian issue as central to Middle Eastern peace and stability. They emphasized the need for what they called a just and lasting settlement based on a two-state solution.

The statement backed creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 4th June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Egypt and China also rejected what they described as any attempts at forced displacement of Palestinians. The joint statement followed discussions between al-Sisi and Xi on regional developments and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
