The Institute of Hearing and Speech, part of Egypt's General Authority for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes, opened its annual scientific meeting on Thursday. The conference focuses on nasal speech problems, velopharyngeal insufficiency, and related speech and swallowing disorders.

The opening session was held under the patronage of Mohamed Mostafa Abdel-Ghaffar, head of the General Authority for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes. Also present were Nagham Abed al-Amir, deputy head for research; Sherif Safwat, deputy head for technical affairs; and Nader al-Fiqqi, dean of the Institute of Hearing and Speech.

The conference brought together specialists in speech-language pathology, otolaryngology, cleft palate surgery, orthodontics, and related medical and psychiatric fields. Presentations and discussions covered the anatomical and functional basis of these conditions, assessment methods using endoscopy and videofluoroscopy, surgical interventions, and speech therapy.

The meeting emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary medical work to reach accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment plans for each patient. Speech, resonance, swallowing, and feeding disorders often require intervention from multiple specialties to achieve the best outcomes, according to conference organizers.
