Two new seed cleaning and treatment lines began operations on Thursday at a facility in the Ahleila area of Nineveh province in northern Iraq, Agriculture Minister Abdul Rahim al-Shammari said. Each line processes up to 10 tons per hour, bringing the plant's total processing capacity to 30 tons per hour. The expansion was carried out in cooperation with the World Bank.

The project also includes construction of 11 storage facilities at the site to allow the plant to receive and store larger quantities of wheat. Al-Shammari said during his visit to the facility that the expansion is part of the Agriculture Ministry's efforts to strengthen domestic production and food security.

Iraq recorded wheat output exceeding 5 million tons in 2025, according to the ministry, a figure that follows output surpassing 6 million tons in 2024. The ministry has attributed recent production gains in part to improved water availability and rainfall in several agricultural areas.
